Shirley Village

Welcome to the Shirley Village website.  In the Derbyshire Dales and close to the Peak District National Park, Shirley is just off the A52 between Ashbourne and Derby.  Well established by the Domesday survey and over a thousand years old, the heart of the village is predominately late eighteenth century.

The parish church of St Michael's has a 14th century chancel and south aisle with octagonal columns.  The tower dates from 1861 and the north aisle from 1842.  Two of the three bells are dated 1688.

In the churchyard can be found the stump and the base of an old stone cross believed to date from the 11th century.

Broadband is Important

Like it or not, the internet is here and it isn't going away. Dealing with the government and its agencies increasingly requires internet access as does getting the best deals on purchases.

New services are being developed all the time, from free phone calls to watching the telly. But to take advantage of these things we need better broadband speeds in Shirley.

The County Council have access to £7.39 million from the government which the council will match if the case can be made for superfast broadband. This means that nearly £15 million could be available.

There are two ways you can get involved. Firstly, complete Derbyshire County Council's broadband survey. And attend the meeting in Trusley village hall on 1st February at 6.30pm.
